Seton
Ernest Thompson Seton was a highly successful author, naturalist, and wildlife illustrator. By the beginning of the twentieth century he had acquired a large estate in Cos Cob, Connecticut.

The estate was sufficiently extensive as to include wooded areas and a large lake with a rustic bridge and a log cabin.
In 1902, after some local boys had repeatedly vandalized the property necessitating repairs to, and repainting of the front gate, Seton invited them to spend the weekend on the property and regaled them with tales of wild animals and Indians.
