Boyce

The legend of William D. Boyce's visit to England in 1909, how he supposedly became lost in a fog, how a Boy Scout helped him to his destination, and how he returned to the United States determined to bring Scouting to the country is already familiar to many.  It is widely available and told elsewhere.

The story was commemorated in this artist-drawn postcard:

Visit to England in 1909

The visit to England was part of a tour that took him on a hunting expedition to Africa.  A year later, Boyce sent out packets of postcards to his news agents to announce a forthcoming trip to South America and to promote sales of his publications.
