Mark Spitz (born Feb. 10, 1950), Cub Scout, has won more gold medals in a single Olympics than any athlete in Olympic history, and is tied for the most medals ever won by a U.S. Olympian (11).  He won gold medals in four individual and three relay swim races at the 1972 Olympics, in Munich, West Germany.  He set a world record in each race.
