Scouts on Stamps:
Errors and Varieties Handbook
Jean M. Ulmer

SOSSI member Paul Toneman completed a trilogy of handbooks for Scout stamp collectors.  Individually, any one would make an excellent addition to the philatelic library of any collector.  All three are a library in themselves.

Starting with the original work of Sheldon Levy many years ago, he canvassed collectors, exhibitors and dealers around the globe in search of information for his Scouts on Stamps: Errors & Varieties handbook.  From the tiniest mistake in the printing process to the major errors such as inverts, color changes, watermarks, overprints, etc., this handbook contains over 1,000 different errors and varieties in Scout philately.  Each entry includes catalogue numbers, dates of issue, description of the error or variety and even a story here and there regarding the source of the error.

The handbook is laser printed and housed in an attractive 3 "D" ring easel style labeled yellow vinyl binder.  It contains over 200 pages with plenty of room for supplements.  Supplements were printed when there is new information.  The last supplement was dated 1998.

The Scouts on Stamps: Errors & Varieties handbook was awarded a Silver-Bronze medal in philatelic literature at STAMPSHOW '92, held in Oakland, California.

Paul Toneman is deceased, and his work is a tribute to his dedication to philately and Scouting.  Copies of his checklists are available only by photocopy or sale from another collector.  A web version is available to SOSSI members only: Scouts on Stamps: Errors and Varieties Handbook
