50th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts, U.S.A.
The original color sketches for this Golden Anniversary commemorative stamp
submitted by the Girl Scouts used green, gold and black. A single color design was
specified to simplify an anticipated last minute change of the postal rate to 5 cents, if
necessary. The accepted design violated the USPS policy of reserving red for air mail
stamps.
The first day of issue location, Button Bay, Vermont was the site of the 50th anniversary
Senior Roundup. Nine thousand Senior Girl Scouts attended this roundup celebration
of the Girl Scouts.
