Honoring the Girl Scouts of America and its
founder, Juliette Gordon Low
Starting with a friendship in England with Lord and Lady
Baden-Powell, Juliette Low was inspired to bring Scouting to
American Girls. She founded the 1st Girl Guide troop in
Savannah, Georgia in 1912 with 12 girls. The name of the
organization was changed in 1913 to the Girl Scouts of America.
Juliette was honored on the first U.S. Scout Stamp issued on her
birthday, October 30, 1948.
