Summary
Scout stamp collecting as a topic began to grow after the Boy Scouts began a Stamp Collecting
Merit Badge in 1931. Interest expanded, with the Scouts on Stamps Society International
forming in 1952 to promote the topic and stamp collecting.
There have now been 15 Boy Scout National Jamborees and one World Scout Jamboree in the U.S.
All have been recognized by some combination of cachet covers, cancellations, stamps, and
a postal card. Several significant Girl Scout events have also been recognized with
postal issues. Today, over 1,100 members of SOSSI around the world actively promote new
topical issues and events.
