At the bottom of each page is a post card perforated along the top. The 3" by 5" cards are visibly smaller than normal postcard size.  Originally intended to be a gift item, the calendar was "conceived by Ralph William Smiley, AB, of Harvard University,. . . . Before sending the calendar away on its friendly mission, be sure to address to yourself the perforated post cards . . . that they may come back to you at frequent intervals during the year."

Each card includes a 1917 copyright notice by Barse & Hopkins [28 W. 23rd St., N.Y.] and the Jan. 16, 1916 patent date by H.M.Stewart.

back of each postcard is labeled 'Boy Scout Ryte-Me'

The back of each postcard is labeled "Boy Scout Ryte-Me".

The first page of the calendar contains the Scout Oath.  It is also the only page that contains the year.  Scouts should be able to read the semaphore message that surrounds January and February.  All others are provided with a significant clue.

A Happy New Year / All Good Wishes

The remaining pages of the calendar contain the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th points of the Scout Law.  Most of the drawings on both the calendar pages and on the postcards have a visible signature of Maud Humphrey, an artist whose postcard work is fairly well known.
